Cockroach Control Sydney
Cockroaches breed fast and carry disease into your kitchen. We clear them properly with professional gel bait that wipes out the whole colony, not just the few you see scurrying for cover.
Few pests are as unwelcome as cockroaches. They contaminate food, trigger asthma in kids, and carry bacteria like salmonella through your kitchen and bathroom. Worse, they are experts at hiding, so by the time you spot one in daylight there are usually plenty more behind the walls and under the cupboards.
Bob Pest Control treats cockroaches the right way across Bankstown, Liverpool, Fairfield and the rest of Sydney's South West. Instead of surface sprays that only scatter the problem, we use targeted gel baits and residual treatments that reach the places roaches actually live and breed. Call before midday and in most cases we can be there the same day.
The Cockroaches We Deal With
Four species turn up most often in Sydney homes and businesses. Each behaves a little differently, which is why correct identification matters before any treatment.
German
Small, light brown, with two dark stripes behind the head. The fastest breeder and the hardest to shift, common in kitchens and units. See German cockroach treatment.
American
Reddish-brown and up to 40mm long. Prefers warm, damp spots like drains, subfloors and grease traps, and can travel between properties.
Australian
Dark brown with pale markings on the wings. Lives mostly outdoors in gardens and subfloors, then wanders inside looking for food and water.
Oriental
Dark, almost black and slow-moving. Drawn to cool, damp areas like drains and basements, and gives off a noticeable musty smell.
Signs of a Cockroach Infestation
You will often notice the evidence before you see the roaches themselves. Catch these signs early and the job is quicker and cheaper.
Roaches at night
Insects scattering when you switch on the kitchen light after dark.
Droppings
Tiny dark specks like ground pepper near food, or larger pellets from big species.
Egg cases
Small brown capsules tucked behind appliances and inside cupboards.
Musty smell
An oily, musty odour that gets stronger as numbers grow.
Smear marks
Brown smudges along edges and corners in damp areas.
Shed skins
Cast-off casings near harbourage spots as young roaches grow.
Our Cockroach Treatment Process
A proven, four-step approach that targets the colony at its source rather than the few roaches on the surface.
Inspect & Identify
We find the harbourage spots and confirm the species, since the treatment depends on it.
Targeted Gel Bait
We place professional gel bait where roaches feed and hide, so they carry it back to the nest.
Crack & Crevice
Residual treatment goes into the gaps and voids that sprays from a can never reach.
Advice & Follow-Up
We share simple prevention tips and arrange a follow up where the infestation needs it.
Treatment Time & What to Expect
A standard cockroach treatment for an average home takes around 45 minutes to an hour. There is very little disruption, and the treated areas are safe for the family once they have dried, usually within 30 to 60 minutes.
It is normal to see a short rise in activity over the first few days as the roaches feed on the bait and bring it back to the colony. After that, numbers drop away quickly. The treatment is part of our residential pest control service and is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
A Few Quick Tips
- Do not spray over the gel bait, it stops it working
- Leave treated cracks and edges unwashed for a few days
- Keep benches clear and food sealed to speed things up
- Fix dripping taps, since roaches need water to thrive
- Call us if activity has not dropped after two weeks
Why DIY Fails for German Cockroaches
Supermarket sprays feel satisfying because you can see roaches drop on the spot. The problem is what you cannot see. Those sprays are repellents, so the rest of the colony senses them and scatters deeper into wall cavities and appliance motors, where they keep breeding out of reach.
German cockroaches make this far worse. A single female and her offspring can produce hundreds of new roaches in a few months, and many populations have built up resistance to common retail products. Foggers and surface sprays simply never reach the egg cases tucked away in the harbourage, so the cycle starts again within weeks.
Professional gel bait works the opposite way. The roaches feed on it, carry it back, and pass it through the colony, which clears the source rather than the symptom. If German cockroaches are your problem, our German cockroach treatment page explains the full approach, and our guide on how to get rid of cockroaches covers what you can do between visits.
