Rat Treatment & Removal Sydney

Rats in the roof are more than a nuisance. They chew wiring, foul insulation and breed fast. We clear an active rat infestation properly and seal the way in, so it does not simply start again next month.

Two Very Different Rats

Roof Rat vs Norway Rat in Sydney

Knowing which rat you have changes where we treat. The roof rat is by far the more common in Sydney homes, living up high, while the heavier Norway rat stays closer to the ground. Here is how they compare.

It matters because chasing a roof rat with traps at ground level, or treating a Norway rat up in the ceiling, simply wastes time while the rats keep breeding. The first thing we do on any rat job is confirm the species and read the signs they leave, so the bait and traps go exactly where the rats actually travel and nest.

How We Clear Them

Treatment Plan for an Active Rat Infestation

An active infestation needs a proper plan, not a single tray of bait. Rats are wary of new objects and breed quickly, so a scattered effort tends to thin the numbers for a week and then lose ground. Our approach combines baiting, trapping and proofing into one program so the result holds. Here is how we tackle it from start to finish.

1

Inspect & Confirm

We identify the species, find the runways and nests, and trace how they are getting in.

2

Bait & Trap

Bait goes in tamper-resistant stations and traps are set on active runways, placed safely.

3

Seal Entry Points

We proof the gaps and access points so the cleared rats cannot simply be replaced.

4

Follow-Up

We return to confirm the activity has stopped and top up if a heavy infestation needs it.

How They Get In

Roof and Wall Void Access Points

Rats are remarkable at finding a way inside. A roof rat can squeeze through a gap not much wider than its skull, then travel through the roof void and down wall cavities to reach the kitchen. They follow pipes, cables and overhanging branches up to the roofline, where the smallest opening becomes a front door.

That is why finding and sealing access points is half the job. We trace the routes the rats are using and proof them with durable materials, so once the infestation is cleared there is no easy way back in.

Where We Check

  • Gaps in the eaves and along the roofline
  • Around pipe, cable and air-con penetrations
  • Broken roof tiles and damaged vents
  • Weep holes and cracks in brickwork
  • Gaps under doors and around the subfloor
  • Branches and fences touching the roof
Keeping Them Out

Long-Term Prevention

Once the rats are gone, these steps make your home a much harder target for the next ones. None of them take long, and together they remove the food, shelter and easy access that draw rats in to begin with.
