Flea Treatment Sydney

Fleas are misery for the whole household, pets and people alike. The trick is that most of the problem is not on your pet at all, it is in the carpet and the yard. We treat the home and garden to break the cycle for good.

An itchy pet and red bites around your ankles are the usual first signs of fleas. They breed fast in our warm Sydney climate, and once they are established in the carpet and bedding they are very hard to shift with shop-bought sprays alone. Worse, treating the pet on its own rarely solves it, because the bulk of the population is living in your home and yard.

Bob Pest Control treats fleas across Bankstown, Liverpool, Fairfield and the wider South West, covering both the inside of the home and the outdoor areas your pets use. We target every stage of the flea life cycle so the problem ends rather than flares up again a fortnight later.

The Main Culprit

The Cat Flea

Despite the name, the cat flea is the species behind almost every flea problem in Sydney, and it happily lives on both cats and dogs. It is a tiny, dark, fast-moving insect that you usually notice as it jumps, along with the bites it leaves around ankles and lower legs.

The key to understanding fleas is the life cycle. The adult fleas you see on a pet are only a small part of the story. The vast majority of the population is eggs, larvae and pupae living down in the carpet fibres, pet bedding and shaded soil outdoors. The pupae are tough and can lie dormant for weeks, which is exactly why an infestation seems to bounce back just when you thought it was gone.

95%
Off the Pet

Only around five percent of a flea population is the adult fleas on your animal. The other ninety-five percent is eggs, larvae and pupae in the home and yard, which is why treating the environment is the part that actually works.

Inside the Home

Indoor Flea Treatment Process

A thorough indoor treatment hits both the adult fleas and the eggs and larvae waiting in the carpet.

1

Prepare & Vacuum

A good vacuum first lifts the carpet pile and removes eggs and debris, helping the treatment reach deeper.

2

Treat the Floors

We treat carpets, floor edges, skirting, under furniture and pet resting spots where fleas gather.

3

Break the Cycle

A growth regulator stops eggs and larvae from developing, which is what ends the cycle for good.

4

Vacuum & Follow-Up

We ask you to keep vacuuming over the following days to trigger dormant pupae, and follow up if needed.

Outside Too

Yard Treatment for Outdoor Pets

If your pets spend time outside, the yard is part of the problem. Fleas thrive in the shaded, sandy and moist spots where animals rest, such as under the deck, beside the house and in garden beds. Treat only the inside and the fleas simply walk back in from the garden.

We treat the outdoor areas your pets actually use, focusing on the shaded and sheltered zones where flea larvae develop. Combined with the indoor treatment, it closes off the places fleas breed so the whole property is covered.

Where We Treat Outdoors

  • Under decks, verandahs and the house
  • Shaded garden beds and along fence lines
  • Pet kennels, runs and favourite resting spots
  • Sandy, moist areas where larvae thrive

Treating Pets vs Property

It is important to know the difference between the two. We treat your property, the home and yard where most of the flea population lives. We do not treat the animals themselves. Your pets need a flea product recommended by your vet, applied to the animal. For the problem to truly clear, both need to happen together, since treating one without the other leaves a gap the fleas exploit. We are always happy to coordinate the timing of the property treatment with your vet's advice.

Moving Out With Pets?

End-of-Lease Flea Treatment

Many tenancy agreements require a professional flea treatment when you move out of a rental where pets have lived. We provide end-of-lease flea treatments that meet that requirement, and they can be bundled into a wider exit treatment so the property is handed back in order. See our end-of-lease pest control service for the full package.
