Live Removal Where Possible

Bee Removal Sydney

Bees are precious pollinators, not a pest to be wiped out on sight. Wherever we safely can, we remove and relocate them alive. Here is how we handle bees the right way across Sydney's South West.

Finding a swarm or hive around your home can be unsettling, but bees are not the enemy. They are one of the most important creatures in our food system, and a swarm passing through is usually just looking for a new home rather than out to cause trouble. Our first goal is always to save the bees, not to destroy them.

Bob Pest Control handles bees across Bankstown, Liverpool, Fairfield and the wider South West. We assess the situation, and wherever it is safe and practical we arrange live removal and relocation rather than extermination.

Our Approach

Live Bee Removal vs Extermination

We always start with the question of whether the bees can be saved. Most of the time the answer is yes.

Live Removal (Preferred)

Where the bees are accessible, such as a fresh swarm on a branch or a hive in a reachable spot, we work to remove them alive and relocate them safely.

  • Best for swarms and accessible hives
  • The colony is saved and rehomed
  • Far better for the environment

Extermination (Last Resort)

Sometimes live removal is not possible, for example a colony established deep inside a wall cavity, or a genuinely dangerous situation. In those cases extermination may be the only safe option.

  • Only when relocation cannot be done safely
  • Used for inaccessible or high-risk colonies
  • We will always explain why first
A Team Effort

Working With Local Beekeepers

Saving bees is a team effort. For swarms and accessible hives, we work with local beekeepers who can collect the colony and give it a proper new home in a managed hive. A captured swarm is often welcomed by a beekeeper, since healthy local bees are always in demand.

It helps to know the difference between the two situations. A swarm is a cluster of bees that has left a hive and settled temporarily while it looks for a new home, and it is usually the easiest to relocate. An established colony has built comb inside a cavity or tree, which takes more work to remove but can still often be saved.

How We Help

  • Assess whether it is a swarm or an established colony
  • Arrange live collection where it is safe to do so
  • Connect accessible swarms with local beekeepers
  • Advise honestly when relocation is not possible
Worth Saving

Why Honey Bees Matter

There is a good reason we go out of our way to save bees rather than reach for a spray.

Pollination

Bees pollinate a huge share of the crops and plants we rely on for food.

The Environment

Healthy bee populations keep gardens, bushland and ecosystems thriving.

The Right Thing

Destroying a healthy colony when it could be saved simply is not necessary.

Aggressive Swarms: Safety First

Most bees are calm, but a disturbed or defensive swarm can become aggressive, and a large number of stings is dangerous for anyone, not just those with allergies. Do not try to remove or spray a swarm yourself, and never block the entrance to a hive.

Keep people and pets well clear, stay calm, and call us to assess it. If you or someone nearby is stung and shows signs of a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing or swelling of the face and throat, call 000 immediately. For wasps rather than bees, see our wasp control page.
